20 April 2006

It's Final.

Here is the present draft of the letter I will give to my boss, Carol. Please give any suggestions for improvement.

Dear Carol,

I have been convinced by myself, my teacher, my parents, and my counselors that for the next several years my highest priority should be getting my education. I require extremely high grades of myself that I might be accepted to colleges with extremely high standards. However, here is where a catch-22 arises. To be accepted to those colleges I need pretty phenomenal grades, standardized test scores, and applications, along with a dash of community service, but to be able to go I need big money that neither I nor my parents have; therefore, I need to work and save as much as I can. Unfortunately, it seems from my experience that working is detrimental to my grades: I have made straight A’s all my life with the exception of seven B’s, six of which have been during this school year, which began about the same time I started working at Trezevant.

My job here is great—the hours are flexible, the work is moderate at worst, and the pay is better than that of anyone I know who is near my age. My original plan was to keep working here until the end of my senior year. Several months ago, however, I concluded that with the four AP (Advanced Placement, i.e. college level with college credit) classes that I will be taking senior year, working would be impossible, so I moved my time of departure from Trezevant up to May of 2007 to give me that summer to really get ready for college with visits, etc. (that or be a Resident Counselor at Lakeshore for another $1600 toward tuition.)

This remained my plan until fairly recently. Of late I have come to connect my lower grades and higher level of sleep deprivation with my hours here. I know that next year will be much harder as I will be taking two AP classes (English and U.S. History) and one Pre-AP (Pre-Calculus), so I have had to prioritize. It has come to this: I need sleep more than I need money, and I need fantastic grades more than I need a job. Therefore, I have formulated a new plan, this time one that is much less likely to be altered:

1. Continue to work at Trezevant through the summer
2. Pursue a job at the Pink Palace for the summer to help make up for losses of #3
3. Stop working at Trezevant when school starts back in August
4. Join the Y again
5. Get a lot more sleep
6. Have time to work up some volunteer hours for my resume.
7. Apply for lots and lots of scholarships.

I am sorry that I am not working until graduation like I said I would originally, but this is what I really need to do. To me a full year is a good solid run for my first job, so I do not feel like I am giving up on being a working girl; I just need to focus more on my studies and stress less so that I do not, in the words of my friend Morgan, end up wanting to hang myself by my slit wrists, because let’s face facts here—that is never good.

Thank you,

Sara Stephens

Here's What's Good in My Life Right Now

  • I have lots and lots of super-cool friends.
  • There is no school Friday.
  • I have weasled myself out of at least two B's this six weeks.
  • I passed Driver Ed with a waiver for my license (barely).
  • I am now Ms. Kitts' TA.
  • I'm going to both New York and Lakeshore in June.
  • There is only one six weeks left.
  • I got into all the APs I wanted.
  • My summer reading includes Angela's Ashes (<3!).
  • I'm a fly Memphis hustla, all I do is stay fresh.
  • Soon I will own both Brokeback Mountain and Narnia on DVD.
  • I am probably gonna marry Josh Brown in ten years, unless Beav gets to him first. :)

HAKUNA. MATATA.

Lakeshore this Weekend

was great.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
indubitably!

a much smaller concentration of bad writing. highlights include: morgan, eileen, beav, ruby, josh brown, troy, allyson, danielle, and some productivity. for example, heres something silly, an acrostic from the spark word "prom" cowritten be me and josh brown:

Pretty dresses
Really cute guys
O my gosh!
Mom, shut up!

(c) 2006 josh brown and sara stephens

bwahahahaa. we are brilliant. and heres something less silly that i started last retreat and finished at this one from a prompt of texas (not as good as three affiliated tribes, but pretty okay i think):

I spent a good ten hours
in one place
reading everything I could find
before making it to
Nondescript, Texas
the humble homestead of my humble homesteaders.
There are sixteen of them,
two parents, nine children (seven of them girls),
and three of the children are married
and have their own children,
bumbling bouncing babes
who learn to knit and tie knots in the womb
and by seven are harvesting vegetables and eggs,
birthing horses,
cooking casseroles independently.

I spent a good two days
in one place
with my extremely distant cousins
who never cut their hair and have
thick French braids to the back of their knees
(the girls at least)
and who don’t own a microwave or a TV
but make the best food and the best entertainment.
I spent two days walking their land,
grass up to my hips,
through a plot of earth so big it might have been
the entire state of Texas,
past the warm wood houses of the children
who grew up and married
and moved out

to another part of their land.
Spent two days listening
to the three sisters aged ten to fourteen
who knew the exact color of every blade of grass
as compared to the shades in their dresses
and how to climb over fallen trees
without catching the hems.
Who knew nothing about politics
but everything
about planting a garden and pulling weeds
about picking corn before the worms come,
about living
really living
in Nondescript, Texas
without a microwave
or a TV.

Being Decisive

i made up my mind. im going with number three. i just cant work next year. so, i am:
  • working at trezevant until august
  • pursuing adding the pink palace for the summer
  • quitting trez when school starts
  • saving lots of the money i make this summer
  • joining the y when school starts
  • stressing less

i was thinking number two for a while, but i am already too stressed and i dont like it. thanks everyone for all your input, it really helped.

I need guidance.

basically i have three choices in my pursuit of a harmonious balance between money and school and life and sleep.
  1. Change nothing: that is, continue with my original plan of working my regular hours (M/W/Th 4-7, Sat 6-9) for $8.00/hr at Trezevant until the end of Junior year. Save enough money to help somewhat significantly in my search to afford college, but possibly become over-stressed in school with my 2.5 APs.
  2. Change a little: Continue working the same at Trez through Junior year, but also pursue the job opportunity I have come upon at the Pink Palace starting at $7.25/hr for the summer (hours unsure). Make a nice chunk of extra money over the summer but potentially miss out on some summer fun because of lost time.
  3. Change everything: Pursue Pink Palace job for the summer along with Trez, but leave the Trez job at the start of Junior year. Get a good deal more sleep, but learn to live with a good deal less money. Join the Y again.

help me. im incapable of making my own decisions. everyone please give your opinions or any other suggestions. kthx.

Hypnotic, Funky Fresh

i just lost the 1, 2 step. how can i go on?

someone please send me this song. poookokihu8otgdv or popsiclesareforthesummertime@gmail.com m'much obliged.

"LAST NIGHT, AGAIN?!"

"You can have a great high school party without drugs and drinking- you just have to replace those things with Candyland and the cast of Tick Tick Boom." --Annebel Simpson.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Last night was the pinnacle of my sophomore career. I think altogether I had almost fifty people there. Nothing awful happened, no one died or showed up drunk or left condensation rings on the wooden furniture. Amazing amazing amazing night. Thank you everyone who came, and I intend to list all of you right now by means of the cups with names. Here goes. Thank you's to

  1. Austin Finney,
  2. Amanda Allen,
  3. Amanda Tittle,
  4. Anna Talley,
  5. Annebel Simpson,
  6. Caroline Fesomething,
  7. Chris Carlile,
  8. Cody Hilder,
  9. David Nikaido,
  10. Derek Suen,
  11. Devin Crenshaw,
  12. Drew Stephens,
  13. Dunkan Koch (as Mark Cohen),
  14. Eileen Townsend,
  15. Emma Austin,
  16. Eric Neimeyer,
  17. Hannah Joyce,
  18. Hattie Strange,
  19. Jennifer Lenow,
  20. Julia Roseman,
  21. Justin Campbell,
  22. Kasidey Fisher-Wellman,
  23. Kathryn Owen,
  24. Kristen Howell,
  25. Kristen Rambo,
  26. Kristy Wilson,
  27. Lane Roark,
  28. Leo Ramos,
  29. Lilla Pivnick,
  30. Lydia Roseman,
  31. Michael Neimeyer,
  32. Morgan Stewart,
  33. Nathan Meek,
  34. Nhat Vo,
  35. Peter Zastoupil,
  36. Rachel O'Connor,
  37. Rashad "Blackie" Blackerson,
  38. Sara Stephens (that's me),
  39. Sarah Mercer,
  40. Sean Meek,
  41. Spencer Miller,
  42. Spencer Nineteen,
  43. Stephanie Frega,
  44. Stephanie Homeschool, and
  45. Vania Datesspencernineteen (whom I never saw and have never met).

That's right, my mom stacked the cups alphabetically. I am almost sure that is all, but I definitely made up a few of those last names. Well, there were three more, but I'll get to that in a minute. So the point is, here is how my yesterday went, in fairly brief terms if I can stand it.

I woke up, went to school, and found out I got into AP 11 and I have three tests Monday. Then I came home briefly before hitting up the bank and Party City. Came back home and took a shower, during which time Spencer, Steph, and Rashad showed up (at like 540 for a party that started at 7) and hung out in my room till I got out and ready. Steph and I hung up streamers etc etc while Spencer watched TV with Rashad. How helpful. Kristen showed up at about quarter to 7, followed closely by Kathryn, and then they really started flowing in. I had a fantastic night and got some amazing stuff. Thank you thank you thank you everyone.

I'd like to take a moment to recognize those who were unable to attend: Amelia, Mouse, Emily, Newman, Huddleston, Hairston, Omair, John Ham, Audrey (whose mom wouldn't let her come because she didn't believe there wouldn't be any drinking), Afton, Mariana, Hannah Shaffer, Alex Bransford, Beaver, etc etc for anyone else not there.

Now, some highlights, if you will: Mercer giving me The Shirt, getting to see Amanda Allen and David Nikaido whom I haven't seen in FOREVER, Kathryn making the world's best brownies (not to shadow Morgan's baked goods which were also fantastic), story time with Homo Thug (the book Dunkan got me about a homo thug which has four typos just on the blurb and contains phrases like "love stick" and "cocoa shute" and "melon-shaped" ew ew ew), Dunkan's great footage which she's cut together to screen tonight in honor of Benny's wife Muffy--Allison--pulling Benny out of the East Village location (How many times did I say that yesterday? 10? 15?), and, o yeah, THE ENTIRE CAST of Tick Tick Boom showing up at my house without warning! WHAT!

Okay, so my mom is amazing. She saw Kevin (of TickTick) at U of M yesterday afternoon cause he goes there, and she was like "Would you consider dropping by tonight?" and so he said he and Annie of TickTick (Ms. Best Voice I've Ever Heard Personally) could come. And then when my mom called him to give the the time and directions and make sure he was coming he said, "Yeah, I'm on my way to pick up Slade right now." And thereby Kevin Murphy, Annie Freres, and Slade Kyle, three of my local heroes, came to my birthday party and sang happy birthday and stayed for at least an hour. It was a phenom.

And while we're at it, I still have two hip-hop mixes, a bunch of pictures from Lane 'n' the Dunkmeister, and Dunkan/Mark's great footage which (s)he's cut together to screen tonight in honor of Benny's wife Muffy--Allison--pulling Benny out of the East Village location to look forward to.

In conclusion, I love my friends, I love fun, and I have OFFICIALLY proven that a fantastic time is easy to have without intoxicants and said time is generally more successful and has far fewer repercussions.

Thank you goodnight (Yeah its 543 in the afternoon).

Spring Break

break is refreshing me. i like this warmth. its only been the first weekend but it is great.

i slept in, watched four movies in twenty-four hours (the bbc pride and prejudice, elizabethtown which i actually really liked, walk the line which i need to watch again, and sisterhood of the traveling pants), shopped with kristen and bought whats hot for spring, got a birthday card from my job, had happy birthday sung to me at bingo, put two hip hop stations on presets on my radio, drove well, hung out with morgan eileen kristen (a lot) and lena, fulfilled one of my new years resolutions, and went to the calvary lenten luncheon with kristen and had the best waffles in all the land and saw A-Tal and D-Tal.

in other news, codys birthday i think was yesterday, and one of the security folks at trez has my birthday. if you dont know when that is, im not telling you. okay i will. its tuesday. the 14th. pi.

ps: it is a fantastic day.

pps: if you have something after the ps, its pps, not pss. you dont have a post script script, you have a post post script.

Uplift Thyself

TRUTHS:
  • sara is not in a state of motivation.
  • sara is in a state of tired.
  • sara is in a state of tennessee.
  • sara is in need of more hours in a day.
  • sara is in need of spring break.
  • sara is in need of advice.
  • sara should see her counselor.
FALSITIES:
  • saras english assignment is worth the time.
  • sara is in control of herself.
  • sara is a good driver.
  • sara enjoys cauliflower.
UPLIFT THYSELF!:
imagine a situation or two or a lot the thought of which makes you happy:
  • imagine a world where sara and morgan go to the same college.
  • imagine a world where sara is not taught by ms douglas every day.
  • imagine a world where sara gets nine hours of sleep every night.
  • imagine a world where sara is not semi-secretly very tempted by drugs and alcohol.
  • imagine college.
  • imagine summer.
  • imagine sleeping until waking, not until being awoken.
  • imagine a boy.
  • imagine lakeshore.
  • imagine clean, strong fingernails.
  • imagine never itching again.
  • imagine time.
  • imagine having time.

TRUTH:

  • sara misses time, sleep, josh brown, her friends, being comfortably warm, spending time, not having guilt, forgetting regret, smelling spring.

imagine a world where all those things are here all at once. uplift thyself.

THIS IS THE HOUR.

its 10.23. i always have a weird feeling about that time. 10.23. it just seems odd. anyway, 2006 comes in about an hour and a half, which is quite soon. i hereby vow to make 2006 better than 2005. at least the 10th grade part of 2005. its been insane, and not in a good way. i need to step up my game, so here're a few resolutions. actually, a lot.

  • first and foremost, make 2006 better than 2005. also:
  • stop eating all the time
  • get back out of the habit of not doing all of my homework every night
  • try to make time to go back to the Y somehow
  • observe lent without cheating, except once on my birthday (which is inconveniently always during lent) [EDIT:Sometime after Lent] I was awesome. And now I make way fewer Yo Mama jokes.
  • be less pessimistic about alto I (N/A)
  • be less pessimistic in general
  • (there is a resolution here that is private)
  • save more money than i spend
  • not buy anything that doesn't fit
  • be nicer to my parents
  • eat more vegetables and drink more water
  • give up on sean (because seriously, thats a both hopeless cause and a bad idea)
  • apply for 10 scholarships
  • stop scratching my knees and elbows all the time
  • improve my posture
  • get rid of everything i own that i dont like (who wants some stuff?)
  • get to school earlier than 725 every day
  • overcome fear of at least one of the following: sleeping with my ears exposed, dancing, report cards, lindsay douglas
  • grow out my hair and wash it more often
  • get more sleep
  • keep up with all my reading
  • take 100 walks and keep count
  • get something overpriced from victoria secret [EDIT: 11 March 2006] Check! IPEX goes wireless!
  • brush my teeth twice every day
  • forget justins phone number [EDIT: 6 May 2006] I sure don't remember it.
  • write

thats enough for now. its 27.

im giving up my vices. / im goin back, back to school. / eviction or not, this weeks been so hot / but long as ive got you i know ill be cool. / last week, i wanted just to disappear, / my life was dust / but now if just may be a happy new year.

happy new year.

i didnt really say anything about writers retreat before. it was AMAZING. o, it has been too long.
yesterday morgan came home with me for a while, i went to see broadminded mental brains again, mercer, em, lilla, and k.ho showed, and afterwards eileen, morgan, lilla, mercer, andy harper and i walked to tcby, then eileen and i went to morgans and watched something about the cosby show, and morgan made o god pie. we ate it for breakfast, and it does live up to its name, especially with chocolate sauce. O GOD PIE. you dont even know.
today we watched the bbc narnia and i came home and had an english muffin plus spaghettti sauce for lunch, tonight at six i go to work, at nine i get off, and at 945 i hope i hope i hope someone will go see shopgirl with me at studio. hope hope hope. i love claire danes.
wednesday i go back to the dermatologist, thank god, and i can get some more of that stuff because my knees are driving me crazy itchy for real. im finna tear em up.
what else? i always forget to go to the bank and end up not cashing my check for like a week. speaking of money, if you were going to buy an ipod, would you get All You Need Is Love engraved on it or No Day But Today? because i am torn.
i need to go read julius caesar and take a shower. this paragraph only exists because i havent used red yet.

25 October 2005

This weekend I was productive for the first time in about two years.

~Three Affiliated Tribes~

Driving to North Dakota is like lighting your
Arm on fire: at first it looks kind of cool,
But you just end up screaming in agony.
Lighting your arm on fire is not an experiment
I suggest, but since you must, make the most
Of it. Driving to North Dakota, I hid behind
The melting wheel, slouched, blasting that one band
With the windows up so the one car I passed
Between Missouri and Nebraska could only
Hear the bass line, a soft testimony to my
Presence, chair back as far as it goes, bobbing
My head invisible to the climax chord of that

One song. Arriving in North Dakota is like
Lighting a long candle and standing, silent,
Waiting for the wax to burn you. Arriving in
North Dakota I found I could lean forward,
Sit up, roll down the window and breathe
Trees, tilting my grip forward on the wheel so
The wax pooled harmlessly on the speedometer.

Staying in North Dakota is much like coming
Home to a lit fire and a rousing game of
"What's your inner Southern accent?" Staying in
North Dakota I slept miles above the floor, and
The house smelled like cumin and cinnamon,
Just crazy enough to work, to put me to
Sleep under too many feathers. Perfect
Timing for another nap after lunch. (Staying
In North Dakota is like finally striking a match
In the Yukon and making it without stranding
Your dog.) Three coats and a nightcap later, I
Was back on the floor, feet bare, curling my
Toes around the edge of a step, curling my
Fingers into my back. I felt smoke as
The match singed me briefly before going

Out. Leaving North Dakota is like driving into
A forest fire, collarbones aching to turn back
And feeling the first unwelcome heat. Leaving
North Dakota I broke the sound barrier in a
Midsize '98 something-or-other, taking
On the end full throttle with nothing to lose
But too many feathers. The one car I passed
Between Nebraska and Missouri saw me,
Chair forward as far as it goes, flying from
Three coats and a nightcap, sure to get as
Far and as fast as I could from North
Dakota before I changed my mind, sure
To go back to short sleeves immediately,
Sure to keep driving until the burning forest
Was gone.

WHATCHU LOOKIN' AT?!

that last post was ridiculous. its only purpose was to attract more spam comments. i dont even know what was going on. hopefully this one will be a little more comprehensible.

next weekend im going to camp really nice bathrooms. (thats lakeshore.) im very excited. with me, eileen, ruby, beaver, and dunkan, we will defeat the sarah cobb girls. and plus theres no sarah cobb. just some people like her. and troy, allison, maybe josh brown *crosses fingers*? okay, this doesnt matter so you if youre not beaver or eileen. the point is its gonna be awesome but i wish austin finneys birthday party was another weekend. because I WAS INVITED TO IT. HOW AWESOME IS THAT JUNT. HE STRAIGHTENS HIS HAIR.

so yesterday i was at school until five because mercer was coming home with me and she had rehearsal. dunkan snuck out of rehearsal so she could co home with me. ha! well we had fun, played in ms kitts's room and outside. plus the most amazing event occurred...

me, dunkan, mercer: *stand outside*
*school bus drives by*
people on bus: *SHOUT things that arent quite words at us*
us: *look*
them: WHATCHU LOOKIN AT?! YEAH WE BLACK!

so, yeah. amazing.
the acoustic why georgia is quite good. i like the alabaster and wine mix. speaking of that kinda, lenas and my friendship is like, not even. we dont even talk. when was the last time i did something with her? i dont even know. crazy.

mouse, please eat a hamburger (or nine boca burgers). i cant even handle you being that skinny. for serious. i bet you cant even give blood.

WHATCHU LOOKIN' AT?! YEAH WE BLACK!

Dee Ee Dee

Sara is going to be ded.
D. E. D.
ded.

no wait, that was thursday night. LORD.

i went kite-flying today with lilla. wtf?

01 October 2005

The rain in Memphis stays mainly in the EVERYWHERE.

i dont have a gigabunch of time. im at work and i have to start working in like 20 minutes. but for the time being, lets just say this is more fun than "close reading" is. for real.

so next saturday i dont have novus. and unless freak engine was last night, its next friday night. basically what im saying is this: lets go.

i saw secondhand lions today, and it was good enough to watch. mom came home with it at 330 and was all LETS WATCH A MOVIE. so we and dad watched it. there was popcorn and ovaltine and overall a good almost two hours spent. but then i had to superhurry and shower and be at work at 6. i was here at 607, but guess what: it doesnt matter cause i dont do anything till seven. i also watched the food network and part of gladiator. as you can tell, this moring after getting up and going to novus and coming back, ive done nothing productive at all. tomorrow, though, i need to do some serious algdeux project-ing because its due thursday and lord knows i dont have any spare time during the week.

so mom drove me to work and its a good thing too, because its raining like the dickens. however, i didnt find that out until it was too late to change out of my fakenstocks, so i had to carry them snugly under moms giant umbrella up the way from the gate to the door. they survived fairly well, id say. i forgot my nametag but seriously, no one cares THAT much.

(note: i know all of you know this, im just writing it down for the record)
so there are like 19 fights a day at white station. i really dont get how people can get that mad at each other that often. we're never ever gonna get to wear jeans. ever. i really dont understand how dr winette could have let 2272 people into a school built to be comfy at 1500 and packed at 1900.

well. its about time to go get ready for the fun and excitement of calling out a gabuncha numbers a gabuncha times (we're talking bingo here, people), so im off to go do that. now where did i put my shoes? i dont even know.

21 September 2005

Uncle! Uncle!

there. that was me saying uncle. i give up. after twelve comments, four of them from beaver and five of them just telling me its time to blog again, its time to blog again.

first, id like to make the distinction that i fully intended to blog on, what was it?, monday, but the power went out. while i was in the shower. as fun as that was, it left me doing homework in the dark and unable to blog. when it came back on eileen came over because she forgot her history book and we dictated the section out loud. unfortunately, it was the wrong section. fortunately, we didnt have a quiz. eileens class did, though. poor eileen.

now we'll back up. here comes an overview of everything i did since my last post, probably not in order. but first some excuses. yeah, okay, its been a while, but by now you all should know that whenever something very important happens that i want to make sure everyone i know has a chance to read, naturally im going to leave the post about it up for a while, about two weeks. and you may be saying, "but sara, its been three!" yes, well, i got busy. last week was full and therefore get over it. okay, carrying on. heres what i remember of the past few weeks.
LIFE OVER.
HOMEWORK = VERY YES.
fast though the first six weeks has been (and it ends monday if you somehow dont know), it has also been busy and busy. i was gonna put something else there but i couldnt think of a synonym for busy other than... busy. so, that first week the tuesday of which i last blogged was really only semi busy. on saturday i went to orientation at trezevant. not that terrible except it started at 830. in the morning. so yeah. i got out a little early (about 11) but since i can only work three hours a day i didnt have to do bingo that night. so, yay. i probably did something with morgan or eileen. maybe not. i dont know.
that sunday night i went to see cory branan, my favorite local artist after scandyvan. since i last (and first) saw him he has cut his hair and shaved less. this concert (at the center for southern folklore) was short and, because he busted his acoustic, was played on electric guitar, one of the strings of which he destroyed at one point during the concert and of course kept playing. this concert, despite its drawbacks (the hair, the shave, the length, and the guitar) was still excellent. most assuredly my favorite part(s) was when the mic malfunctioned, which it did at least thrice, he stepped onto the stairs and sang really loud and said "well this works better anyway" and it did. if you dont know about him you should go listen to some of his music on his website. excellence. this was september 4th. the next day was labor day and we didnt have school. sweet.
the next week was a bit busier than that one, but i did pretty well and got a 100 on the history test (mesopotamia). sweet. wednesday the seventhe (haha, seventhe) was my first pay day. holy moly. brokeness over. ducks = very yes. (ducks are dollars. eileen did it.) every two weeks i get about 170 ducks. almost half goes in the bank, but the rest goes towards a) the stuff thats not worth the money fund AKA me getting an ipod, b) going to nighttime movies, c) probably a whole bunch of cds, and d) YOUR christmas presents. thats right, i have money, you can start sucking up... NOW.
[EDIT] I WROTE LIKE FIVE PARAGRAPHS AFTER THIS AND BLOGGER FCKING DELETED THEM. FCKING PLANNED MAINTAINANCE. [/EDIT]
thursday i went to see tick tick boom with my mom. we had terrible seats. friday i went again with eileen and morgan but got there half an hour early. seats still sucked. it was like sitting in the left wing. saturday i went to nathfaces birthday party (me, lane, sean, lena, afton, kasidey, ali, mpc, broken flowers which lena and i didnt pay for, but i dont feel bad cause i hated that movie), then afton and i went to hatties for cakeand smallville. this was a much more detailed account the first time i typed it. went to bingo and then sunday afternoon went to tick tick boom again. thanks to my getting there an hour before it started, dunkan and i had great seats. being able to see all three faces certainly enhanced the experience.
the next week was the busiest yet. tuesday i auditioned for novus. it didnt take long and having rehearsals at crichton will be nice cause its three blocks from my house and right next door to trez. tuesday i went to the dermatologist right after school and got some stuff. turns out i have exzema. who knew? then mom took me to arbys (mmm) then to work. thursday i got an email from mr williams telling me id be singing alto I. i was most distraught seeing as ive always been alto II. im writing an email to mr williams that explains how if he doesnt let me sing alto II ill be a bum and live with my parents flipping burgers till im thirty. dont worry, ill make it work. friday i got a math teacher and had a history test on india. got a 99. score.
friday night a very unlikely event occurred. i hung out with lilla. it was nice. she came over from about 630-1030 or so and we had a good deal of fun. watched the food network, walked to geekers, and i taught her some life lessons and learned a few myself (among them: never assume that a person knows what ovaltine is or what a george forman grill does). overall, rather good times. i went to bed pretty much right after she left. the next day was cooper young. i went with kathryn about 230 but throughout found yuntin (justin), chris, leo, dunkan, emma, zoe, alanna, morgan fox, xander, kristen howell, and probably some other people im rudely leaving out. mom bought me some earrings and i got fourhenna tattoos from emma. w00t. also i bought a milkshake. then went to bingo, came home and slept. (NOTE: this is how far i was when blogger ate my post. except it was about 30% longer.)
.
sunday the 18th was latin project day. you see, i had a latin project due monday that no one started before the last weekend. so i started about two and worked pretty consistently until 630, when i went tp spencer mississippi for a while, ate burgers, worked on latin, came home, worked on latin, and finally finished around 1130. that completion was quite gratifying. my mosaic says BEWARE BEE and has a bee on it. but i forgot to give the bee wings. monday i turned it in. this is getting very pastel.
.
now we are to yesterday. had novus rehearsal and sang a whole lot of notes that were really not in my range. of course that was HUGE fun except not. did mercers latin homework cause shes in latin I and AP world and im sure she had a lot of AP world studying that couldnt be disrupted by latin one homework. so yeah. today i went to school and in chemistry had candy and dropped a quiz, came home, showered, and came to work at 4. since 449 i have been on this computer doing nothing work related because im done with everything. this job would be perfect if the office werent so cold. tomorrow i have numeroud tests becasue the six weeks is almost over, and friday is a half day. lets make this weekend great, people.
.
okay, so you wanted a post, and i gave you what you want. now you give me what you all know i want because everyone wants them. you know. its not hard. just type and hit enter. like pie. it has taken me an hour and a half to write this post, so really, its the least you can do.

Probably Like the Best 24-Hour Period Ever

[mood: walkin on sunshine]
[music: hold me, bat boy]

so, lets start exactly 24 hours ago. i had gone to work a little early, so i got out at 6:49. this was planned. i fully intended to have some extra time between getting off and 7 to get to the ossies. that would be the ostranders, or memphis theatre awards, and from that you should see where this is going. and so i changed my shoes in the car and we (my mother and i) got there wet but on time. i saw two lovely seats near the front in the middle. however, my mother suggested that we sit off to the right a bit because thats where the actors usually sit. so we did. to the right, second row. mother went to get a drink. i sat. and waited. and lo and behold! my mothers judgment OWNS. who should sit right in front of us, but andrew weir, paul seiz, angela groeschen, and--you guessed it--michael ingersoll. YES. SIR. now, let me refresh your memory.

headshot.

from floyd collins. (WHY did i not see this? WHY?)

from of mice and men (with george dudley, who won the ossie for best lead male instead of him.)

thank you, google image search. thank you, PotS. so angela won two ossies, andrew weir won two (one of them was the super impressive rising star award thing), and paul seiz won one (but he was nominated against himself five times. in the same category). and michael sang something gorgeous from floyd collins, but he didnt win any, and it was just about the saddest thing ever. but not really, cause of mice and men was sadder. which is why he should have won. HOW can you not give an ostrander to the man whose character had to kill his best friend? it was so sad to look and see ossies under the chairs of everyone on his row. i was highly distraught. but he took it like a man. yes sir.

so when andrew weir won that thing everyone stood up and FINALLY he turned around. and he waved. and WINKED. and he smiled and said, "hey, its you! i was like, who the hell is behind me?" cause i was naturally very enthused in my applause and whatnot for various awards (of mice and men won best drama), and he said it sweetly. so everyone sat down and they gave out the last award(s?) and then mom was like, "we need to go." so we started wandering out (slowly because i was stalling) and i said, "mom! dont you need to go to the bathroom?" and so she did. yes. stallstall, and out he comes in this yellow jacket. o MAN.

so we spoke very briefly and then andrew weir (or is it wier? i think its weir) came and talked to him for a minute, during which time he held my shoulder. (the right shoulder. now my favored shoulder.) so andrew weir left and we spoke further. discussed things: he married angela the first day of school, i love him, theyre going to chicago tomorrow, they plan to visit once a month. so mom got out of the bathroom and started out, so, naturally, a hug was to ensue. and it did, and it was prolonged. and then he kissed my left cheek this time (both previous times it had been the right). and THEN,

he said:

"you want one on the lips before you go?"

and i did.

and the rest is history.

(im walkin on sunshine, whoa-oh!
im walkin on sunshine, whoa-oh!
im walkin on sunshine, whoa-oh!
and dont it feel good?)

What I Did at Work

this. yeah its a link. (waaaatcha gonna doaboutit?)

in the clean version of Ride Wit Me (nelly), when they scramble what mofo is short for, it sounds like "muthfagummh" and its funny. morgan made moon pies. thay are a gift from god. alannas finna go to college. itll be weird to never see any of them. the weekend was enjoyable, but not particularly intriguing.

stayed home friday. saturday went to trezevant then saw you and me and everyone we know at highland with morgan, alanna, eileen, johntom, morgan fox, and so forth. it was good i thought. then went home with morgan. today made pancakes with morgan, eileen left, read a tiny bit of OaFK, helped morgan make moonpies, came home, did contemporary issues homework, had dinner, got online. i need to think of a shorter term for contemporary issues. something like, CONTISSUES. i like it.

ObligaLATE Start of School Post

as i hope you understand, this is more for me remembering when im old and senile than for you being entertained right now, so if you dont wanna read this, yknow, whatever.

2nd: Pre-AP English, Ms. Douglas, Rm 034. this class will be so hard. what a horrible woman. its not that, i mean, she doesnt seem mean until she takes off for putting your page numbers at the bottom instead of the top. and by takes off, i dont mean two points, or five. i mean ten. TEN. TEN POINTS. OFF A FIFTY ONE PAGE PAPER OVER WHICH I SPENT HALF MY SUMMER SLAVING. I AM PISSED, AND I DONT EVEN SAY PISSED. in the words of newman: "sometimes you want to kill yourself in her class... just to show her whos boss."
people in this class (PitC): lane and annebel (at my table), rachel schou
, andrew lu, lilla, coretta, hannah schafer (sp?), alex bransford, mariana, david nikaido (my favorite asain! he dyed his hair blond! wtf!) UPDATE: justin. GAWD.

3rd: Honors Latin II, Ms. Haughton, Rm 10. not too bad, not too bad. it seems easy-ish so far. the sentences in the work today were like, pater est lucius, and stuff. but maybe thats cause its the begining of school. lane hates latin so much its hilarious.
PitC: lane, annebel, lauren nelson, four michaels (including biscoe!), a buncha people from latin i.

4th: Honors Contemporary Issues, Ms. Matson, Rm 237. this class will be easy im pretty sure. very little homework, very few projects, and its high time i learn whats going on in the world, cause i have no idea. i didnt know who tony blair was. i am pathetic. but it will be fun.
PitC: mariana, the kid who i call the kid who has no friends but i think he has a friend anyway his name is karim, and pretty much no one else. but it will be like old BOTT group times with mariana.

5th: Honors World History, Mr. Whitehead, Rm 235. im for real excited. he gave us an extra credit test about the apartments and stuff in london where rock stars were. his favorite artist is hendrix. he said "your name isnt ms caplan unless your hormone pills stopped working" to peter. morbidly awsome.
PitC: anna talley, emma, peter, austin finney, hannah joyce, a very small foreign freshman boy named calvin(?), ms caplan (the very outspoken and very redheaded freshman whom i dont know but will prove to make this class very interesting)

Lunch: C, freshman lunch, but a decent number of people i enjoy.
PitC: even though its not a class. all those folks from world history (calvin is part of our adopt-a-freshman program) lane, mercer, eileen, kristen howell, hairston, afton, dillon, leo, and hobbit kid. not shabby at all.

6th: Honors Chemistry, Ms. Davis, Rm 103. ms davis is such a crazy mofo. i love her. i already have like, 35 or 40 davis dollars. score. plus, i think i am going to like chemistry. i never imagined that was possible.
PitC: lane, jake whatshisface, the prestons. not too extensive a list, but theres lane.

7th: Honors Algebra II, Rm 034. you notice how i didnt list a teacher? yeah. thats cause i DONT HAVE ONE. thats right. they havent hired a replacement for mr munter yet. and thats what it said on my schedule. algebra ii, charles munter. which of course means that if he had stayed i would be in his wonderful class again instead of in ms douglas's room in alphabetically assigned seats doing ridiculous busy work assigned by a sub. silently. cause we cant talk. W. TF.
PitC: audrey, peter, philly.

so there you have it. that was overdue. if i get over ms douglas making me want to die and get a math teacher, ill be quite happy. except i have no classes with morgan or eileen or mercer (cept lunch). if its odd that i pointed out mercer, i did it cause in 8th i had ALL my classes with her and in 9th i had three and lunch, so im used to a lot of mercer, and now im deprived.

the end.

Honeydew

or is it hunny-do? like a honeydew list. thats the melon. anyway, this is just to get everything straight in my head of what i need to do before school starts. if i write it down ill feel .4% more prepared. ill cross stuff out when i do it.
  • Interview at Trezevant. I GOT THE JOB I GOT THE JOB!
  • Register for school. That I'll do tomorrow. Done it.
  • Finish Connecticut Yankee journal. I've already typed all the quotes and analyzed the ones through ch.38 as of 2:30 Sunday morning. I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE!
  • Get journals bound. I heart Kinkos. O man, the completion is so gratifying.
  • Go to the dermatologist's. 'Cause of my knees. Mom's getting me an appointment. Well, I got an appointment, but it's not for six weeks so I'm crossing it out now anyway.
  • Celebrate Lane's birthday. I was at the mall for almost seven hours. Sweet wounded Jesus, my heels hurt.
  • Get a haircut. Just a trim. Gay boy who looks like Aaron Lohr has a green-tipped fauxhawk now.
  • Read The Once and Future King. Let's face it. That's not gonna happen. It seems good. Maybe I'll read it soon.
  • Read the Sparknotes for The Once and Future King. Maybe I'll read the first and last chapters.
  • Buy uniform clothes. I need grey shirts and black pants. And maybe a green (kelly or darker) shirt. And some socks. Yay Target.Yay Old Navy.
  • Buy school supplies. Notebook paper, theme paper, PhD pencil, hairties, etc. Yes, hairties are a school supply. Man, Office Max is like Christmas. Got some great parchment paper for my journals.
  • Go to the dentist's. I got a purple toothbrush. Funtimes.
  • Drive somewhere. Well, I'd like to, at least, since I've only driven in a parking lot before. Actually, I didn't, but summer's over and if i don't have everything crossed off I'll go all OCD up in this junt.
  • Eat cake and/or Indian with the Pairrrerrr of Three. Mmmm. Lamb kabob. Scrumptious.
  • Not die. That's the hard one. Frodo lives! And so do I.

okay, i think thats it. and what was up with all that correct capitalization up there? craziness. im thinking of dying my hair again. POLL: should i do it? if so, should i do the same florange as last time or something else? if something else, what? why?

Rainbow, Panda, Donnie?

goooooood morning, and welcome to mondays edition of Sara Writes Down What She Dreamt Last Night So She Can Remember It! todays guests include a very small rainbow, her dad, a van, a broadway show, gilmore girls' mrs kim, panda suits, amelia, an unexpected phone call, donnie, a couch, and some serious blushing. lets bring 'em out!

okay. so there were three, i think, but the third one referred to the first one so... i dont know. first, dad was driving me home in his fedex van, and it had been raining, so there was a rainbow, but it was much smaller than a normal rainbow, and i could see where the end went, so just as we were driving past that place i JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR. yes. and didnt get myself killt. right, so the rainbow ended under the very end of an overpass where the road is just like twoish feet off the ground, yknow? and the rainbow was kinda sparkly and full of particles and really pretty. so i scooted down under there looking for my pot of gold (obviously) but there wasnt one. there were, however, many different superhuge (between volleyball and basketball sized) jewel-y things, but more opaque, and one was in the bottom of hte road like a button to push, so i pushed it really hard and then i heard my dad honking for me from down the road so i had to go, and he was like, WHAT, and i was like, dude, its the end of a rainbow, why wouldnt i jump out the car?

then amelia and i were in some musical i think at the orpheum, but we hadnt rehearsed it at all (ive had two or three dreams like that) so we just had to go with the flow, and so we followed everyone and crowded around someone in a corner and pretended to listen to them tell a story, then all the other kids left and came back on in panda suits, and i was like, dude amelia, i think we should put on some panda suits, but we went back there and there were none left, so we went on a search of backstage into this HUGE like warehouse room with some panda suits hanging on the ceiling over this like knocked over metal cabinet thing. so we tried to get them down but obviously failed a lot until we saw mrs kim coming and freaked out cause we thought shed be really mad at us for being back there but she just helped us get some down and we talked about white dresses.

finally (and this ones my favorite, not because its extremely bizarre but because its warm and fuzzy) i was at home, but it didnt look like my house, it was just understood. and chase from lakeshore may or may not have been there in the beginning, im not sure, but he disappeared at some point if he was. i dont remember the details as well from this one. so suddenly the phone rang, and it was that huge old grey phone thats in my parents' room, so i answered it and it was donnie. (dont remember or know about donnie? hes the infamous gorgeous boy i met in alabama summer before last and was seriously crushing on until i found out he was five years older than me and thats illegal. his shoulders were freckly.) so naturally i was incredibly giddy and grinny and it was probably really obvious on the phone too, and then in a few minutes he shows up at my house while we're still on the phone and im super happy and then BOOM! he proclaims his love for me. and it wasnt even cheesy either. and so we're still on the phone even though hes like three feet away and we sit on the very squashy couch (the one drew just got yesterday thats blue) and naturally i was blushing like a marysue and im so nervous i refuse to get off the phone and so i turn sideways towards the empty part of the couch and we're still on the phone but his elbow is definitely in contact with my back, and so we talked on the phone for a really long time. at some point i mentioned jumping out of the car. its not interesting, its just very warm and fuzzy. [EDIT] there was a lot of tense change in this paragraph. [/EDIT]

[NEW EDIT] I LJed, dude. www.livejournal.com/~ancilladelectat [/NEW EDIT]

thats it. maybe ill get a job.
