the meager beginings of act II of a play that will never be finished.

Some of the Toasters Were Irate Today
Act II
Scene I:

(Curtain is closed/down, lights are extremely dim, and audience is silent. If they're not, we fire them. Seriously. There are flamethrowers backstage.)

Varied Voices: (from behind the curtain) It's finally over… Did we really make it?… Can't you all fail and stay with us? …Don’t worry; we'll have Things all summer… All summer… But what about--?

Zenith: (In a thick Irish accent, and yes, it is very sexy.) SILENT! The curtain will rise!

(All noise is cut off immediately when she speaks. The curtain opens/rises to reveal Zenith CS. A light shines directly down on her. Entire Main First Year Posse is onstage in black, framing her.)

Zenith: I have called you all together to discuss a matter of great importance. I warn you: some may not live through this. ALL of you will suffer! It is no choice of mine, but I nevertheless cannot stop it. I will be departing. Aye, the rumors are true, all of them! You will none of you see me this full season, and I none of you. It will be hard, nigh impossible, but you MUST struggle through! You cannot give up hope. Be strong, my friends, for it is not so long as you imagine. (The light begins to fade very slowly.) Remember, subjects, the Secret Service will know how to contact me. I am never really gone. Take comfort, and farewell. (The light is almost gone.) A final note! (it returns to full.) Magenta! (She comes to parade rest.) Kradess! (She comes to parade rest also.) No cheating! (Magenta and Kradess have a look, smirk, look back at Zenith, and nod militantly.) Very good. (Zenith snaps and the lights go immediately to black.)

Varied Voices: She is the day… the night… the world… She is the Sun, the Moon, and all that lies beyond… She is our food, our oxygen…she is our heart and everything… everything we stand for… She is our green-winged huzzah in the silence of pirate victories (I'm really proud of that line; cherish it.)… She is our lungs pumped full of helium… She is… she is… she is… she is…

Duncan: Gone.

(The lights come up halfway. All remain exactly where they were, except Zenith, who seems to have disappeared.)

Kissup: (Ruining the sorrowful mood) I'm gonna go do some math! (He exits.)
